Benign Violation

“…if a being can perform any action, then it should be able to create a task which this being is unable to perform; hence, this being cannot perform all actions. Yet, on the other hand, if this being cannot create a task that it is unable to perform, then there exists something it cannot do.”

“See the gloomy night withdrawing,
And the roseate morning breaking;
While the rainbow of Haao
Upward leaps from Auaulele:
Lo! here comes the long expected
Comes Laninuimehameha
Comes to Kealohilani
Welcome to this home, O chieftain,
Come within and drink the awa
Kane planted in Hawaii:
Bathe in the forbidden waters
Pool of Ponahakeone.
So shall all the god’s descendants
     By thine action be preserved.”

Ventures in Vanity

Glimpse this recently sequestered beauty in an asset-boasting gown that swaths her body, over curves and immaculately. The red, gauzy chiffon props itself about her elfin frame, when best-dressed praise or overly-attentive wardrobe concern is the least I can give to such grace, such poise.

The ensemble settles, roiling into a lacy train that trails her in obtuse angles to the ground. Accessorized sparingly, the dress’s own geometry reaffirms that my minimal attention to pop-culture is situated appropriately: on Hollywood’s effervescence.

HAIM — “Send Me Down”

Felt bad about neglecting this song’s praise in due time after discovering. Its mixture of musical elements overwhelm me to feel affectionately shell shocked, erotic without touching, and beautiful while stoic.
The song features a syncopated downbeat. Pricking the ear, swelling in and out, up and down. It counters the sound of something imminent that tubas produce quite easily, on the edge of danger.
With ease, the vocals contend with a vigor of its own, only to bloom daintily into the chorus of extended runs and strains of vowels.
The climax happens, commits itself with discretion, and you will notice. You will focus.
The song ends in perfect time with the sound of a knife being brandished in the hand of its worthy owner, leaving our curiosity in the babbling subtlety of endless abstraction. There, I said it.

Parched Luxury

means of transportation, arrival at whimsicality: somewhere between a Dali landscape and a desert melting on the face of the sun. seasonal babble of echoes, vibraphone of the firmament, undoing everything preconceived as necessary.

Arbor Ardor

The J. Paul Getty Museum boasts elite design concepts, boxy architecture and sunlight manipulation to make you rethink your next off-the-cuff garage sale purchase/eBay search parameter.  Outside, the courtyard houses three bougainvillea arbors.  Museum goers may end their visit here for a quick garden jaunt through other regional, flowering shrubbery where some of the hedges resemble trees approaching symmetry.

A Bird That’s Pretty

Not until long after I painted my bathroom using a color palette described as ‘a traffic cone melting on asphalt in the summer heat of Phoenix [with bleached white accents]’ did I notice that, all along, I could have just matched the paints to the beak tip and facial feathers of nature’s famed Atlantic Puffin.
